Discovering Your Soul Mate Through Astrology

by Susan Cameron

Have you ever wondered after you have first met someone of the opposite sex if that was your soul mate? The two of you hit it off just right and you talked way into the night and discovered how much you had in common. Isn't it interesting that after just one meeting, in which the coincidences were just too great, you wonder if this is the person you were born to be with for the rest of your life? You like all of the same things, movies, food, music, recreation and vacation activities and you just can't quit thinking about this wonderful person you had a chance encounter with.

Astrology can be an amazingly accurate tool for better understanding yourself and your friends, and even better, to determine compatibility. Astrology can reveal who we are, what we have to offer, how we offer it, and with whom we are most likely to share our talents, abilities and love. Increasingly, people in the West have been turning to astrology for clues, insights and answers that this field of study has to offer.

Your relationships are based on all the planets, signs, and houses in your birth chart and how they interact with all the planets, signs, and houses in other people's charts. Relationship astrology studies just how compatible two people are as well as what type of relationship it is. Relationship astrology can tell whether two people are emotionally, mentally, or sexually compatible, and whether they would work well together as partners, as boss and employee, or recommend that they avoid each other like the plague. Relationship astrology also can tell you when one person in a relationship will want to control the other one and in what ways, devious, bold, good-intentioned, empowering, manipulative, or unconscious. Relationship astrology can determine if you have similar or conflicting value systems or beliefs, as well as many other specific issues and strengths. In some countries where marriages are arranged, astrologers are consulted first to determine if the two people are compatible. Only then is the couple approved for marriage by the families.

Now let's look at Sun signs for compatibility. Just as the Sun is the strongest light in our solar system, your Sun sign is the strongest representation of who you are. Symbolically, the Sun represents your self, your willpower, and your creativity. There are twelve Sun signs in the zodiac and each are associated with an element. Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are the fire signs. The fire signs are energetic, idealistic, self-assertive, courageous, and often visionary. The fire signs are very active, stimulating creative expression, and always passionate. The second element is earth and the Sun signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Earth signs are practical and skillful, good at managing physical assets, financial matters or any form of matter. The third element is air and the Sun signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. Air signs represent social and intellectual abilities and ideas, communications, thinking and social interrelationships. People with air signs operate on a mental plane, through air, which may help you to remember what air signs are like. The fourth element is water and the Sun signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Water signs are sensitive and emotional; they think with their feelings, intuitively, and are often romantic.

People are often said to be compatible with each other if they both have the same element associated with their Sun sign; in other words each is a fire sign or water sign. This is a very simple way of looking at Astrology to choose someone who is compatible with you. If you go to an astrologer for a relationship or compatibility study there are many other things that the astrologer looks at. First, he will ask you for you exact time of your birth, along with where you were born and the date. The date alone will give you your sun sign, but nothing else. By having the exact time of birth, the astrologer will be able to tell you where all of the other planets are in your natal chart. Your natal chart is unique to you and will have a story of its own of what your life's purpose and challenges will be.

There is much more to compatibility than having your sun in the same element. There is also the ability to work well together such as earth and water signs or fire and air signs. Some signs just work better together. Find out what the Sun signs are of all the people you work with and note which ones you get along with better. Think and write down all of the Sun signs of the people you have dated or married and jot down the characteristics you liked and disliked. By doing these exercises you will notice a pattern of who you can work best with and who makes the best partner. This can be a fun experiment and something you can work with to try to determine what Sun sign you are most compatible with. Remember each sign has its strengths and weaknesses depending on us and the choices we make in life.
