Reclaiming Your Spirit:
A Journey Through the Chakras Continues…..

by Susan Cameron

Chakra Seven

As we come up to the end of our journey, a thousand petal lotus sits like a crown for the whole system. Chakra seven is located at the top of the head and its Sanskrit word is Sahasrara which means thousandfold. The element associated with it is thought and the color is violet. The gemstones associated with it are amethyst and diamond. Its planetary rulership is Uranus.

This seventh chakra is our connection to our spiritual nature and our capacity to allow spirituality to become an integral part of our physical lives. Here is where we strive to achieve a personal relationship with the Divine. The crown chakra represents our conscious and unconscious thought structures - our belief system. These beliefs are the rulers of our actions.

It is this Charka that the Hindus have always felt is the seat of enlightenment - the center and source of consciousness itself. The Hindu way to achieve this state was to withdraw from the senses. Through separation from the world, one would gain access to enlightenment of the mind. It is through the crown chakra that we reach into the infinite body of information and run it through our own chakras and bring it to recognition and manifestation.

The seventh chakra can be thought of as the master controller of the mind. Our belief systems are the structures, which control all our thoughts. As a controller, this chakra relates to the pituitary gland, often called the "master gland" because it regulates the function of all the other glands.

The term cosmic consciousness is often used to describe the crown chakra and refers to an awareness of cosmic order. The lower chakras are full of millions of bits of information about the physical world and its infinite cycles of cause and effect. Cosmic consciousness reaches far out into the galaxies and beyond - literally the cosmos.

At this chakra we are furthest removed from the material world and with it the limitations of time and space. With our thoughts we can jump from the Stone Age to visions of the future. We can create, destroy, learn and grow.

Opening the crown chakra is not so much about increasing our own consciousness, as it is about expanding our operating system so that it can embrace a larger portion of the universal field of consciousness. This occurs through meditation, spiritual practice, mystical experiences, altered states of consciousness, study and education and the simple but profound act of paying attention.

By becoming one with the Divine is to dissolve or transcend the boundaries that keep us separate. The boundaries exist in our minds alone. Give up all attachment to outcomes. Let go of the past, do not anticipate the future and live in the presence of the Divine. Allow spirituality to become an integral part of your physical life.
